Dragon Mission Statement ...

Pickens County athletics provide a supportive atmosphere where coaches challenge the intellectual and physical abilities of athletes and foster strength of character. We encourage student-athletes to reach for excellence and teach life skills for success – in and out of the classroom. We represent an entire community of Dragon fans and work hard to bring pride to the Dragon Nation.


Pickens County Athletic Program Goals ...

  • field competitive teams within the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and Region 7-AAAA and its member schools to bring pride to the Dragon Community
  • have a coordinated middle and high school athletic program

A bit about our Head Dragon...

Chris Parker is beginning his 1st year in the newly created position of District Athletic Director. While continuing his head football coaching duties at Pickens High School, Coach Parker agreed to take on the newly defined District Athletic Director’s position and responsibilities. Coach Parker has been tasked with maximizing the potential of athletic departments in the middle and high schools and making the athletic programs more defined and organized.

Coach Parker is in his 4th season as the Head Football Coach, joining the Dragon Nation after serving as the Head Football Coach at Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, GA for four seasons. The AJC named Coach Parker the “Top New Coach in the State for 2008.” Coach Parker joined the Dragon Nation in 2012, when the Atlanta Journal-Constitution named Coach Parker the “best new hire in AAAA.”

The Dragons football program has improved steadily, with Dragons setting records and reaching numerous achievements. The 2014 team tied the school record for wins (eight) and was only the 2nd team in school history to host a State Playoff game. At Pickens, Coach Parker’s teams are 22-12 and his overall coaching record is 49-28.

Coach Parker is a native of Foley, AL and graduated from the University of Alabama. He received a M.S. from Georgia Southern University. Coach Parker and his wife Kimberly have one daughter, Ellie, and live in Jasper.
